A “designer dog” results from breeding two different purebred dogs. Intentional crossbreeding creates dogs with specific characteristics, often combining desired traits from both parent breeds. The American Kennel Club (AKC) does not recognize designer dogs as official breeds, so they are not eligible to participate in AKC dog shows or competitions.
